LinkedIn as a job-finding tool PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 15 December 2009 14:36

You may probably have heard of LinkedIn. It is also quite possible that you are allready using it. But do you know how can LinkedIn help you find a job?

First of all, the default search mode when you log into, is "Search People". If you use the drop down menu, you will see that there is an option to "search jobs". This is much more interesting for most of younger engineers. You can also refine your search according to the field you are interested in, or based on your location, by defining country, city and distance range.

Another much more precise and interesting way, is via the various professional groups/unions. For example, since I'm a member of the SPIE group, I receive in a weekly base, a mail with the news of my group, plus 5-6 job listings. It is quite often to see job postings inside this groups that can't be found with the first way described. So this is a good way to stay up-to-date and also receive valuable information related to your field. Through these groups, you can also find postings for postgraduate or postdoctoral positions throughout the world.
