DSMC successfully completed the Open Hardware 4 High Schools (OH4HS) training course addressed to high school teachers with a background on IT and electronics. The aim was to familiarize teachers (the participation reached 280 registered teachers from 70 schools across Greece) with the open hardware electronics/ Arduino programming platform to develop the necessary skills and become familiar with modern microcontroller applications. The completion of the course is expected to assist teachers to develop similar experimental facilities at schools to be used throughout teaching activities aimed to attract the interest of students in applied computer science.

The course was organized in the form of a Massive Open Online Course (Mooc). All material is provided in electronic form via webcasts, self-assessment quizzes and laboratory exercises performed in at DSMC remote laboratory facilities entirely with e-Learning methodology.
The action was funded by Google through the Computer Science For High School (CS4HS) initiative and a large part of the grant was used for donating 35 laboratory kits to selected schools giving priority to schools in remote and less developed areas.

At the end of the course a competition was organized regarding lesson plans for high school courses based on the laboratory setup that was used and a 3D printer was awarded as a prize to the most complete work. Among the many excellent proposals submitted - showing the clear interest, knowledge and readiness for voluntary participation of teachers who participated- the 1st EPAL of Messolonghi emerged as the winner.
An illustrative set of proposed experiments remain available on-line by providing open access using the remote laboratory laboratory facilities at: http://dsmc2.eap.gr/open-remote-labs.
