i-Zen Intelligent Zero ENergy Flow Meter presented at IEEE Applied Electronics conference 2018

Prof. Theofanis Orphanoudakis (Director of DSMC) and Anastasios Fanariotis (Research Associate of DSMC) presented the paper “i-ZEN an Intelligent Zero ENergy Flow Meter” during the Applied Electronics conference 2018. The conference was organized by the Department of Applied Electronics and Telecommunications of the University of West Bohemia in Pilzen, Czech Republic. The paper covered the design space exploration, the system integration and the experimental evaluation of the i-Zen Intelligent Zero ENergy Flow Meter. i-Zen is an Intelligent zero (externally provided) energy integrated flow meter device for the Internet of Things (IoT) featuring fully energy autonomous operation exploiting turbine based energy harvesting. The main target was to prove the capability of the system to function under long periods of time without any power generation while keeping the energy consumption lower than the energy generation when there was sufficient water flow. Through the measurements the autonomy and functionality of i-Zen was proven to be excellent. The paper is available here.
