The International Conference on Signal Processing and Multimedia Applications (SIGMAP 2012 - http://www.sigmap.icete.org), to be held in Rome, Italy (July 24-27, 2012) is now welcoming the submission of position papers whose deadline is scheduled for next April 26.
A position paper presents an arguable opinion about an issue. The goal of a position paper is to convince the audience that your opinion is valid and worth listening to, without the need to present completed research work and/or validated results. It is, nevertheless, important to support your argument with evidence to ensure the validity of your claims. A position paper may be a short report and discussion of ideas, facts, situations, methods, procedures or results of scientific research (bibliographic, experimental, theoretical, or other) focused on one of the conference topics. The acceptance of a position paper is restricted to the categories of "short paper" or "poster".

Professor Jan Cornelis from Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Belgium, is going to give a lecture on Thursday 15/3/2012 at 13:00, at the Science and Technology Museum of Patras University. The title of the lecture is:
"Regional, University and Departmental strategies for technology transfer - cases in biomedical engineering"
The event is organised by IΕΕΕ Greece section with collaboration with the student branch of the University of Patras.

Η IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CASS), σε συνεργασία με το Εργαστήριο Ψηφιακών Συστημάτων και Επεξεργασίας Ψηφιακών Μέσων (Digital Systems and Media Computing Laboratory - http://dsmc2.eap.gr) της Σχολής Θετικών Επιστημών & Τεχνολογίας του Ελληνικού Ανοικτού Πανεπιστημίου (ΕΑΠ), διοργανώνει και χρηματοδοτεί για πρώτη φορά τον «Εργαστηριακό Κύκλο Συστημάτων Μικροελεγκτών - ΕΚΣΜ». Ο κύκλος αυτός απευθύνεται σε φοιτητές της τριτοβάθμιας εκπαίδευσης που είναι μέλη του ΙΕΕΕ. Ο ΕΚΣΜ συντονίζεται από τον Καθηγητή Αθανάσιο Σκόδρα, διευθυντή του Εργαστηρίου Ψηφιακών Συστημάτων και Πρόεδρο του Ελληνικού Τμήματος του IEEE, και η διδασκαλία του έχει ανατεθεί στον Δρ. Βασίλη Φωτόπουλο, συνεργάτη του Εργαστηρίου Ψηφιακών Συστημάτων. Προθεσμία δηλώσεων 5/11/2011.

The 1st Blended-learning Course on Microcontrollers has been succesfully concluded on December 17, after the final examination that was held at the premises of the Digital Systems and Media Computing laboratory (DSMC) of the Hellenic Open University in Patras, Greece. The course was sponsored by IEEE's Circuits and Systems Society and the Hellenic Open University. The course duration was five weeks and started on November 14. Twenty participants were selected from more than double the number of applications, to be tutored remotely on the hot field of modern microcontrollers. Four systems had been setup localy at DSMC Lab, being available 24/7 and students were able to access and program them remotely, while being able to monitor the results of their code in real time since a web camera was transmitting the each system's live view.
