Telekom Innovation Laboratories (T-Labs) is a joint scientific research institute of Deutsche Telekom AG and Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin). We carry out pioneering research into innovative information and telecommunication technologies, addressing in particular human interaction, networking and security issues. The Laboratories are located on the campus of TU Berlin, with the goal of promoting the interaction between science and business through physical proximity.

For the Quality and Usability Lab of T-Labs/TU Berlin, we seek applications for a PhD position (German scientific researcher, “Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter”, salary according to the TVL E13 scale) in the area of Service Quality Evaluation. The aim is to investigate how quality perceptions are formed in multi-service scenarios, over longer usage periods, and how such quality perceptions can be described by algorithms. It includes the design of new experimental paradigms for quality measurement, the set-up of the corresponding experiments, including hardware and software testbeds, the organization of the experiments, the statistical analysis of the results, and the algorithmic description of the results. The work is integrated into a collaborative project with the Deutsche Telekom AG, and depends on the agreement of funding still to be finalized.

The ideal candidate would have a Master degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Communcation Sciences or a related discipline, good hands-on experience with modern telecommunication services and the underlying technologies, some background on quality perception and judgment processes, as well as good organizational and self-management skills. The willingness to work in an international and interdisciplinary team with communication in English is a must; however, because German test participants have to be dealt with and German test data has to be analyzed, a good knowledge of the German language is also helpful. The position is linked to a project with an expected length of 24 months, with an initial start-off period of 3-6 months; for the subsequent period of the PhD, additional funding is expected which however cannot be guaranteed at this moment. The project should start as soon as possible.

Applications including a CV, a motivation letter, copies of the most important certificates and 1-2 references should be sent to
